Description MHNS is a broad-based community service organization which supports families and social justice in our neighborhoods. Special attention is given to high-risk, low income hispanic children and families in the immediate neighborhood. Bilingual Preschool (Bookstart) is for children three to five years. This program introduces children to the world of books, literature, and public speaking. The preschool prepares the children for kindergarten with quality instruction, at a low cost. Finanacial assistance is available. The Before/After school program is from 7am-6pm. Working parents and students may leave their children in the care of the program. The children are walked to and from school. Volunteer tutors and mentors help the children complete homework before going home. Staff/tutors follow the children's progress by interacting with their school teachers. Music, art, and sports activities are provided. Family and Community Services act as support services for parents and adults. Additional referrals, information, emergency food, support groups, ESL, immigration issues, and translation services are provided.
