Description The Human Services Department administers state and federally funded programs. The programs include: Medicaid: is a joint federal and state program that pays for health care to New Mexicans who are eligible for Medicaid benefits. Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF): provides assistance and work opportunities to needy families by granting states the federal funds and wide flexibility to develop and implement their own welfare programs. Food Stamps: are federal monies issued to eligible low income households to increase their purchasing power and nutritional levels.Low Income Home Energy Assistance Programs (LIHEAP): assists eligible persons and families with their heating and cooling costs. Child Support Enforcement Services: assists in collecting child support Income Support Division: variety of programs aimed at assisting New Mexicans
